Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari met on Friday May 30th, 2008 with the Swedish Minister for Immigration and Refugees, Mr. Tobias Tilstrom at the Swedish prime minister headquarters. During the meeting they discussed cooperation relations and coordination of immigration issues and refugees as well as ways of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Mr Zebari spoke about the developments in Iraq and the significant improvement in the political process and security situation and stressed the Iraqi government's keenness on protecting the rights of Iraqi citizens inside and outside Iraq stating the Iraqi government keenness on obtaining the expertise in dealing with issues of immigration and immigrants.
Mr Zebari stated that the memorandum of understanding with the Swedish government on refugees came to guarantee the rights of Iraqis and establish a new phase of stability close to the reality of Iraq and gives Iraqi refugees and immigrants the right to live wherever they want in Iraq or in the immigration country according to the refugees decision and confirmed voluntary return of refugees to their country.
