Foreign Minister Meets U.S. Congress Leaders

Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari attended two meetings in the Congress the first took place with the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee chaired by the Committee's Chairman, Senator Howard Berman.

The minister explained to the Senate the stage achieved by the political process and the positive developments in security and explained the backgrounds and details of the ongoing negotiations of the strategic framework agreement and the security agreement.

The Senators and Congressmen expressed great interest in the ongoing negotiations expressing a great desire to observe every detail, and asked questions on political and security and legal aspects in the relationship between the United States and Iraq they also expressed their desire to see progress continue in these negotiations and thanked Minister Zebari for the briefing he gave. Some Senators and Congressmen expressed a preference to postpone the negotiations to the following U.S. administration next year, and stressed the keenness on success in Iraq and ensuring its stability and prosperity.
